work, company, colleagues, continent - will everything change?
Monday-(12.12.2022) my day off! Besides laundry and shopping, a long chat with my CD (course director, my teacher for DM [DiveMaster] and diving instructor). It was his last day after 25 months... And in the past few days and weeks there have been people within the management of ProDive who have pissed me off as a former process and team developer / consultant. I'll take a look at the whole thing and then make my decision. At the moment I can't say when that time will come, nor what my decision will be then. Do I stay in this area but change diving schools? Or do I look for a completely different diving area - and if so: which one? (Maldives, Red Sea, Mediterranean, Middle East, Thailand, Zanzibar, ... ?) Or do I stay longer where I am now? I will know when the time comes! Furthermore, with a colleague who was doing the IDC (diving instructor course) with me at the same time, we discussed via WhatsApp whether she should change her base from Puerto Aventuras to Maroma because the working atmosphere is not particularly good for her right now...
Tuesday - back in the water! All thoughts, worries and considerations just stay on the surface and are simply forgotten for 2 very relaxed dives with 3 certified divers! There are also corresponding videos on my channel... And on the way the confirmation: my colleague Milan will switch to Puerto Aventuras, but it has not yet been finally clarified who we will get for it - my colleague from Monday or another diving instructor in any case, everyone is welcome! It's just a pity that I'm losing a very experienced colleague in Milan.
Wednesday - no diving - in the sea! Due to too much wind and therefore too big waves, diving was not possible today - but only in the sea! I used today to offer so-called "demos". A free lap around the pool with tank, BC, fins and goggles! The diving time is about 2 minutes, before that a little explanation ("put the regulator in your mouth, hold it with your teeth, seal it with your lips and under no circumstances stop breathing!") and afterwards a bit about different diving courses, talk about the underwater world and its threats as well as general points. If I counted correctly, there were 13 customers who wanted to try it out, sometimes I had a surface interval (i.e. "time between 2 dives") of less than 10 minutes!
Thursday - hm, somehow I only saved "demo in the pool" there, according to the dive watch 8x; one father with son and one couple from Portugal
Friday - one of Thursday's pair is back and as DSDs! After the theory, we went into the pool together with another participant and did the exercises there - breathing underwater, blowing out the mask, taking the controller out of your mouth and back again, and practicing other (necessary) skills. However, only the couple went into the sea because a dive with the husband of the other participant was planned for Saturday... In any case, the dive in the sea was very relaxed!
Saturday- the 3rd participant from yesterday and her husband (by the way DiveMaster and underwater photographer) were diving in Eden Rock - with very good visibility! Eden Rock is a dive site made up of one large block that has grown over centuries; you find valleys and caves and culverts and lots of niches - and all kinds of animals are hiding there! The participant spotted the first lobster right away - after 5 minutes! The glow in the eyes after surfacing was correspondingly bright! Then I was with 2 other DSDs at the "Labyrintos" dive site - here there are isolated blocks that are between 30cm and 10m apart - so again with passages, caves and many hiding places! In one of these we found 4 lobsters and towards the end a stingray swam past us!
Sunday- a different day! It all started when I went back to Puerto Aventuras (PA) to do 2 DSDs in the pool there. Then it turned out: 1 DSD and 1 refresh - but the content is quite similar. One of the differences: DSD only has to partially flood the mask, Refresh has to take the mask off and put it back on underwater. It's not just about blowing out a mask that's completely filled with water, but also about coping with stress underwater. By the way, both were from Canada, one of them from the French-speaking one. Then we went with a DSD and another diver (from Belgium) by car to Playa del Carmen - to my "old" base! (Background: the boat in PA was being serviced. ) In Playa my colleague from Maroma came - the boat also had to be serviced there - and went diving with DSDs from there plus the DSD from PA. In the meantime I explained the theory to 2 other DSDs and went into the pool with them. Igor, our photographer, who knows the dive sites very well, was also with us on the dive. We didn't see any lobsters there, but we did see a turtle! By the way, the dive site is called "Jardines", which means something like "garden". The name comes from the many corals that grow there like flowers in the garden. Schools of fish, parrot fish and 1000 others have also triggered enthusiasm here. tl;dr: although I don't know how long I'll be staying with Pro Dive, the decision to become a dive instructor was the right one!
